Small but cute dining shop for a relaxing lunch or dinner. Menu options had some of the same dishes but slightly different variations of it, which is interesting! Good customer service. Good place to try out Balkan cuisine. For the price you pay, and overall 4/5 for me! Added to restaurants to stop by once in a while

This was one of the best places I have ever been not only in the US but also in Albania and Kosovo. I am from Albania and I know well the traditional food, but this was out of this world. A very pleasant experience and the food was delicious. For those who are interested, you will be full and it is very affordable in terms of price

Holy foreign food jackpot! If you need to get your Balkan grub on, then this is your place! No need to purchase 15k in airfare to eat the foods of the Mother land. The lady who greeted us probably had a gold tooth, which reminds me of my aunts and their big hair in the 80s - which gives this place authenticity! I LOVE IT! Burek, CHECK! Samuna, CHECK! Kajmak, CHECK! And so much more people, remember to bring an extra stomach. The only thing that is missing are bigger tables because well we need to make room for all the foods. Please don't judge my inner fat kid who is still fat because of Balkan food. I blame my culture for being responsible for creating deliciousness out of basic ingredients. Like Cevapa for example, Jakova Grill has it down to a science. Just go here and feast, you'll be happy you did! you're welcome!

Fantastic Albanian cuisine. I came in here on a weekday afternoon for a quick lunch, and Jakova Grill really hit the spot. The clientele seemed to mostly consist of Albanian men on their lunch breaks, and the waitress was very courteous and friendly. She asked if I was a first-timer, and took the time to explain what the menu items were. I decided to go with the mixed plate, which includes 5 qebapa (spiced skinless sausage very similar to Bosnian ćevapi), 3 qofte (the Albanian take on kofta - kind of like mincemeat and onion meatballs), and kajmak cream (somewhat similar to cream cheese, though not quite as thick and with more of a "cheesy" taste). This also came with an order of simple cabbage salad with oil and vinegar and some wonderfully fluffy bread. The whole meal was simple, unpretentious, and delicious. The qebapa was the best I've ever had, beating out the only other Albanian restaurant I know of in the region (Kalaja Restaurant on Dequindre), as well as Palma Bosnian Restaurant in Hamtramck. The kajmak was so rich and creamy, and made a perfect accompaniment to the meat dishes - the mixed plate can be served with or without kajmak, so definitely make a point to get it! The only downside is that the food is a bit pricey for what it is ($15 with tax and tip), but it's worth it for such a rare kind of pleasure in the Detroit area. It's also worth noting that this restaurant has very few vegetarian offerings. However, the goofy Albanian music videos they have playing on the TV are a plus, and just hearing Albanian being spoken in the background was pretty neat. I'll definitely be coming back to try their suxhuk (spiced sausage) and xhevreka (beef and mozzarella patty).

I've never had Albanian food before and I was anxious to try it. We were so excited we tried several dishes. We started with the mixed plate which has qebapa and qofte in a homemade sour cream sauce. Both were amazing. The seasoning was perfect and I loved watching the food being freshly made. We also tried file, the beef was tender and savory with just the right amount of cheese. We also tried the amazing homemade suxhux which is a slightly spicy sausage. The grosh beans were perfect as was the cabbage salad. The food here is amazing and everything is made fresh, on site every day. This is a place we will come back to many times.

In the often homogenous food scene of America's suburbs, the chance to try something totally new and different is a rare one indeed, and one that must be seized. Driving down the endless corridor of Mound Road, in a sea of food experiences catered towards the lunchtime factory crowd, a sign in a strip mall jumped out at me: Jakova Grill. I had no idea what drew me to it, other than the name was confounding in the sense that "Jakova" was definitely a word from another language and I wanted to know more. I decided to try it out; the outside gave no indication as to what kind of cuisine I would find inside. The moment I stepped in, I saw a white sheet of paper that said, simply, "Albanian Dishes". I knew I had struck gold. The menu is small, though I am told it will expand. On it you will find Albanian staples; Qifteh (pronounced Chef-teh), Qebapa (Che-bap), Pleskavica (Ples-ka-veecha) and a couple of other things. I told the chef to give me a mixed plate, some bread, and a tomato salad. Sitting at the counter and watching the owner/chef Florem prepare the food, I knew I had discovered something special. To make my salad, he grabbed a bunch of fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, and onions, and got to chopping; no pre-mixed anything here. It was so simple and so delicious: tomatoes and cucumbers with a handful of feta dashed with vinegar and oil. Perfection. From his grill, he gave me a handful of Qebapa (sausages), Qifteh (think Kefta - ground beef + spices in a patty), a small chunk of fresh feta, and a grilled pepper. To eat it Albanian style, you also cover your plate with the crushed red pepper from the tabletop dispensers, then you rip off a hunk of the samun bread, jam a sausage or patty into it along with a chunk of the grilled pepper and feta, then rub it in the red pepper to make it extra spicy before eating it. The meat was fresh and it was perfectly cooked. Both my wife and I took our first bites and had that "whoa" moment when something that you think should be so simple and uninteresting blows your mind. There is some magic in that meat. The restaurant is brand new, so expect some kinks (although we didn't experience any other than the waitress wasn't familiar with the menu yet since she didn't speak Albanian and the fact that the suxhuk sausage wasn't available because it was too hot outside and Florem said he didn't like smoking the meat when it was so hot out). There is nothing from any bulk suppliers here; he gets his meat from the butcher and makes everything from scratch. It's not often you get to try something new. Go for it!
